The Credit

A Short One-Act Drama

Maggie (Tape): A well-known Economist who is recognizable due to her ubiquitous presence on major news and business outlets. She is extremely observant, a shrewd thinker and speaks precisely and assuredly. She has a bit of an elitist air. She is petite in build.

Brooke: MAGGIE’s younger sister and personal/business assistant. Her easy-going nature is very different from her more tightly strung, critically thinking older sister.

Nick (Tool): A very outspoken, opinionated, me-first school board official who has a self-aggrandizing view of himself. He is the kind of individual who relies on titles and structures to deliver/protect his power. He is highly judgmental and just can’t help himself when it comes to tearing others down. He is balding.

Ray (Hammer): A dapper, polite, magnanimous man who is sincere about helping others less fortunate. He is generally soft-spoken and has a humorous, slightly mischievous side which he demonstrates every now and again. He does not rely on his stature and build to get his way, but he will become physical if the situation requires it. He is African-American.

Lindy (Sander): She promised her late father she would graduate from college with a business degree so she would have the tools to navigate a difficult career landscape. She is a responsible straight-shooter, pleasant, yet not a goody two shoes. She is a prize-winning, professional body builder who knows first-hand what commitment looks and feels like. Often treated as an ‘outlier’, she has learned to be unflappable in the face of derisive comments and name-calling.

Admin (Pissed): A graduate student in his mid-late 20’s. He is punctilious, academic and hot-tempered. He strives always to put forward ‘a contained front’.
